Niacin (vitamin B3) is a B vitamin that performs many beneficial functions in the body, including stimulating blood circulation and reducing blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Niacin aids in maintaining proper metabolic functioning, supporting energy metabolism as well as carbohydrate and protein metabolism. Niacin also contributes to digestive and nervous system health, while helping to maintain healthy skin and hair.
Niacin, also known as nicotinic acid has been used since the 1950s to lower elevated bad LDL cholesterol and triglyeride levels in the blood. Numerous clinical research support the use of niacin to reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. In fact, niacin works even better when combined with statins, cholesterol lowering medication. This combination can increase the good HDL level by 50 percent or more, as well as reduce LDL level more than just using statins on its own.
Niacin at high doses can cause temporary flushing of the skin - redness, heat and itching sensation soon after ingestion.
The active ingredient in Solgar No-Flush Niacin is inositol hexanicotinate. It is metabolised in our body into niacin and inositol.WIth inositol hexanicotinate, the dilation of blood vessels is sufficiently gradual to completely avoid the flushing symptoms.
Solgar No-Flush Niacin is also less likely to cause gastrointestinal discomfort which may be associated with niacin use.
