Phosphatidylserine belongs to a class of fat-soluble compounds call phospholipids, which are essential components of cell membranes. High concentrations of phospholipids are found in the brain, the most abundant of which is phosphatidylserine.
Phosphatidylserine is used as a supplement in Alzheimer's disease, depression, to improve memory, and by athletes.
Several studies involving phosphatidylserine indicate an improvement in Alzheimer's disease - improved cognitive abilities and behaviours when taken at the early stage of the disease. The effects are due to multiple functions including enhancing cell membrane fluidity and enhace neurotransmitter activity.
Phosphatidylserine may also be of benefit in combating exercise-induced stress by lowering excess levels of cortisol during exercise. Excess cortisol can speed the breakdown of muscle tissue.
Contains soy lecithin enriched with phosphatidylserine, microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, vegetable cellulose, vegetable stearic acid, silican, vegetable magnesium stearate, vegateble glycerin.
